  Ovarian Reserve Test

As a woman gets older there is a reduction in the “number & quality” of eggs left in the ovary. Some women of the same age have fewer eggs than others.

There is now a new blood test that will be able to estimate the number of eggs available. It is accurate even in women on the pill or other  treatment.

This blood test called “Anti-Mullerian Hormone” or AMH. Several research studies have shwn it to be predictive of ovarian reserve and reproductive potential.

The cost of the AMH test: £129

  Test for  Tubes

One in five women with fertility problems will be found to have some problem with their tubes.

The tubes can be affected by scar tissue (called adhesions) or be blocked. Such damage can prevent  the egg and sperm meeting therefore causing infertility. About 8 out of 10 cases of damaged tubes are caused by Chlamydia infection.

There is now a simple blood test that can assess the risk of your tubes being damaged by measuring antibodies to check if you have had an infection in the past.

The cost of a Chlamydia blood test is: £80

  Sperm Test

In about a third of couples complaining of infertility the main problem lies with the male. We also find that in up to half (50%) of couples with infertility, there is a problem with sperm.

Usually this is becuase there are insufficient numbers of normal sperm available to fertilise the female egg, sometimes its because of motility, noramlity of the sperm or the presence of antibodies.

We undertake a detailed “sperm test” in  our Nationally accredited laboratory.

The cost of a sperm test is: £100

Fertility Ultrasound Scan

Transvaginal Ultrasound Scanning (TVS) provides a picture of uterus and ovaries. We can check you for problmes of the ovary and womb which could affect your ability to conceive or carry a pregnancy.

It is also helpful for the following:

  • Monitoring for IVF, ICSI or other fertility treatment such as egg donation
  • Polyps, fibroids and thickness of womb linig (endometrium)
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Amenorrhoea (lack  of or irregular periods)

  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCO)

  • Premature menopause

  • Fluid filled damaged fallopian tubes (hydrosalpinx)

Ultrasound scans can monitor if the eggs are developing properly and if they are being released from the ovaries. This is called ovarian follicular tracking.

We can also measure ovarian reserve using ultrasound scans of the ovary to count  the number of follicles (egg sacs) within the ovary called AFC (antral follicle count). AFC is highly predictive of the number of eggs that will be collected and the likelihood of success with IVF treatment.

The cost of a Ultrasound scan test is: £150
