The Clinic is lead by: Mr Valentine Akande MBBS PhD MRCOG




He is a fully accredited specialist obstetrician & gynaecologist. His NHS practice is as a consultant at the Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine (BCRM), and the division of Women's Health, Southmead Hospital Bristol. His academic training includes having been a research fellow and later a clinical lecturer in reproductive medicine at the University of Bristol. His research into infertility led to the attainment of a PhD and several international publications and book chapters. He continues to undertake research and is a reviewer for several British and international medical research journals.

Mr Akande provides has specialist expertise in the following areas:


   • Fertility & Reproductive Medicine


   • Advanced gynaecological laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery


   • Gynaecological ultrasound scanning


   • Early pregnancy problems

Mr Akande and is committed to providing a personalised service. His continued inolvement in training and research ensures patients receives the most up-to-date care.

 

The clinic is licensed by th Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) to undertake IUI treatment [centre No 0284].

 

 





Mrs Sarah Gamlin PA to Mr Akande and the clinic administrator. Sarah has over 10 years experience of working within the healthcare sector. She is a fully qualified medical secretary and PA. Sarah’s role is to provide patients with an immediate contact at the clinic ensuring questions and concerns are promptly answered by either herself or Mr Akande as appropriate.

 

Working closely with Mr Akande and his team Sarah ensures patients receive a personal, professional and confidential service


 


 


 

Carrie Pretsell RGN MSc, Carrie is a Gynaecology & Fertility Advanced Nurse Practitioner who also works at the Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine (BCRM), Southmead Hospital. She has been working in this field since 1992.As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner Carrie has attained further qualifications including a diploma in Gynaecology, Nurse prescribing & has undertaken an Masters of Science Degree in Advanced Practice. Carrie is has also been specially trained in ultra sound scanning and the investigation process for new fertility patients.She is a member of the British Fertility Society (BFS) & the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) forums for Fertility & Gynaecology. Carrie enjoys being part of a dedicated team and is personally committed to ensuring that patients are fully informed and supported through their fertility journey.

 





 

Keith Moss, is the  laboratory manager at The Glen which belongs to a managed  network of 26  hospitals throughout  the UK. SPIRE hospitals, formerly known as BUPA, continue to offer affordable,  quality care and treatment to its patients. Keith is currently manager of a multi-disciplinary laboratory at the Bristol Spire Hospital, he trained at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and later followed a progressive career path at in various NHS hospitals specialising in clinical biochemistry. With trained laboratory staff in this specialty and a laboratory fully accredited with nationally recognised bodies  i.e , Clinical Pathology UK Ltd and Human Embryology and Fertilisation Association, the team has created a service that  it is justly proud with many successful  outcomes.



 


Julie Holbrook  MIBMS, has worked in Andrology for over 30 years.Initially in a NHS Microbiology Lab and later in 2 private Hospitals. She is a member of the Association of Biomedical Andrologists,  the Institute of Biomedical Science and leads a competent team at the Spire Hospital Bristol





Nicky Wilkinson   CSc, FIBMS, has worked in Biomedical Science disciplines in the NHS for 22 yrs. Twelve years ago she moved to work in the private sector Multi-disciplinary laboratory. This has provided me with the opportunity to embrace all aspects of Biomedical Science with particular interest in Andrology. As a small team we take keen interest in all our patients we support at every stage of their journey through, what is sometimes, a very stressful period of their lives. Our patients’ successes are our driving force to provide our very best service.

 


Bernadette Jones, MIBMS, qualified as a Biomedical Scientist in 1978 and has worked in a  diverse range of  laboratories in the UK and abroad which have included NHS and  the Private sector,  specializing in Haematology and Transfusion Science. She has been involved in  Andrology for the past five years and am a member of the Association of Biomedical Andrologists. I enjoy being part of an enthusiastic team who are able to assist our clients and  gain a  great deal of personal satisfaction from our successes     

 



Norma Wilson (BACP registered) Specialist Fertility counsellor



Norma Wilson is a fully qualified and a Specialist Fertility Counsellor. She is BACP registered and adheres to the BACP Code of Ethics. She is a member of The British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA). If you are having fertility investigations and treatment it is not unusual to find the experience stressful and difficult at times. You may find it helpful to talk about the thoughts and feelings that can arise. Specialist fertility counselling aims to provide emotional support throughout the fertility process.
